MAKEUP HOW- TO: THE AVANT GARDE SPLATTER MASK

I have been a makeup artist for several years now, but my very first photo shoot as a makeup artist still sticks with me as some of my favorite work! In this post I am going to tell you exactly how to re- create the mask part of the look below, step-by-step... and I think you will be surprised by how easy it can be! MATERIALS NEEDED: -black gel eyeliner -several colors of loose eyeshadow pigment -small amount of water or mixing solution -concealer brush for gel eyeliner -fluffy powder brush -disposable, clean, mascara wands OR a clean toothbrush STEP 1: Use a concealer brush to evenly apply a thin layer of gel liner across the area in which you would like the affect. Blend a second layer of gel liner to the areas you would like to be darkest. You may either blend out your edges as seen below, or tape off the area beforehand to keep a harsh edge. Always avoid the waterline of the eye (skin between lashes and eyeball.) STEP 2: Choose a pigment (silver used below) for be applied loosly across whole gel liner area. Use your fluffy powder brush to apply a very small amount of pigment at a time. (try dipping your brush into the pigment, and then blotting the excess away on your hand, paper towel, etc.) Place your brush in the center, and use circular strokes to blend outward. STEP 3: Mix a few drops of water with a small amount of pigment to create a thick- liquidy texture. Dip your mascara wand or toothbrush into the solution, saturating it. Dab the brush quickly and softly along "mask" area, changing your direction, or keeping it all the same direction, depending on preference of finished look. You can switch up your splatter by soaking your brush and flicking the bristles toward the face. STEP 4: Clean toothbrush, or switch mascara wands and choose a new color to repeat step 3 with. Repeat with as many colors as desired! STEP 5: Complete your look with airbrush foundation, false lashes, and lipstick and you're ready to go! Congratulations!
